Volunteers from the Midtown Volunteer Fire department were called into service to battle a house fire at 120 Hilltop Lane Wednesday afternoon, Initial reports are that the blaze started in the recreational vehicle parked in the driveway and spread into the carport where two vehicles were housed, and then into the dwelling.
The owners, Beecher and Mary Bell, escaped without injury.
The fire spread quickly due to the exploding of a propane tank in the RV, and the vehicles' fuel tanks.
A request for assistance was sent out and firefighters from the East Roane County Fire Department, as well as persons from the county's Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security responded.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
